Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says "the single priority" for the government in the federal budget has been "to create jobs and to get people to the other side of the pandemic".

Mr Frydenberg was adamant it was "very much a Liberal budget" consistent with the party's values, pointing to measures to boost homeownership, which he described as a "Menzian Ideal".

"At times of national crises, there are no ideological we need to do everything to prevent a generation of Australians being lost to long-term unemployment," he said.

"Right now, the labour market has bounced back very strongly and people are back in work."
